What Do I Have To Do To Be A Plumber?

Like the idea of being a plumber? It’s not surprising as the plumbing sector can offer a satisfying hands-on the job, the chance to own your own business and surprisingly high wages. So if you see your future as being listed on the local Bolton Yell website as a plumber, you should take the required steps to become fully trained.

Here are some of the stages necessary to become a full-time plumber:

The Journey To Apprenticeship

Getting your foot in the door is the biggest benefit of a training apprenticeship. It can give you practical experience as well as the ability to earn while you learn. Though wages vary depending on who you train with and your age, your apprenticeship will let you gain skills, qualifications and a direct route to being a plumber.

Training Types

To be a fully qualified plumber you need an industry recognised qualification at NVQ 2 or 3. To begin one of these you must already have either:

  • Level 2/3 Diploma Plumbing and Heating
  • Level 2/3 Diploma Installing and Maintaining Domestic Heating Systems

If you have no prior knowledge or experience of a number of necessary plumbing skills then you should begin at level 2.

Level 3 is suited for people who have experience or have passed level 2. The level 3 diploma includes learning skills such as ACS safety assessment requirements, cold water systems, drainage, solar heating, oil and appliances as well as water and recycling systems.

You can gain these qualifications while working in plumbing and they will be given to you by industry award-giving bodies such as Guilds, EAL and BPEC. College Training Courses.
